You're standing on rocks right now, probably without thinking about it once. Rock with You is here to fix that - a down-to-earth, funny, genuinely useful guide to reading the ground beneath you, built for total beginners and written to make you actually look twice at the world around you.

Rocks are everywhere. They're under your feet, in your kitchen countertop, in the phone in your pocket - and most of us walk right past all of it without a second glance. Rock with You: A Down-to-Earth Guide to Geology is here to change that. No hammer, hard hat, or degree required - just a clear, friendly explanation of how to look.

The book's split into eight parts, each one named after a classic rock song - "We Will Rock You," "Ring of Fire," "We Built This City," and five more - and it moves at a good clip: what a rock even is and how to tell the three big families apart, deep time, plate tectonics, how mountains get built, why the Ring of Fire keeps shaking and erupting. Then, right when you'd expect a geology book to wrap up, it does something most of them don't: it turns the lens on your own life. The last part is about the concrete under your feet, the minerals inside your phone, the soil growing your food - because once you can read rock, you start noticing it everywhere.

Every chapter keeps coming back to "how do we actually know this?" - not just the facts, but how scientists dug them up - alongside real field-identification skills for your next hike and enough personality (bad puns included) that it reads more like a friend geeking out at you than a textbook.

If you've ever wondered what your house is actually made of, wanted better hiking small talk, or just liked the idea of understanding the planet under you a bit better, Rock with You is for you.

Über den Autor
Sven Schevers studied geology at Utrecht University, then worked in the oil & gas industry as a geologist, and now works as a subsurface advisor for the government - proof that a geology degree just keeps finding new ways to stay employed. This is his first book. When he's not thinking about human-induced seismicity and subsidence, he's on a basketball court, where he has a killer hook shot (according to himself). He loves spending time with his two kids, partner, and two weird little dogs. He also loves writing about himself in the third person.
