Beschreibung
This is the story of plantlife on Earth, uniquely retold through some of the most significant fossil dicoveries ever made. Palaeobotanist Paul Kenrick explains the importance of each fossil and reveals the stories behind the sharp-eyed and sharp-witted people who found them. Each fossil is beautifully illustrated with photographs to bring this unique story to life.
Beginning with the origins of plant life in the sea, when photosynthesis first evolved in bacteria, the book traces the evolution of land plants, ferns, conifers and their relatives, and flowering plants.
Each example is interwoven with ’snapshots’ of landscapes and environments at various periods of geological time, focusing on plants but touching also on plant-animal interactions.
