Beschreibung
This book analyzes the rhetoric of speeches by major British or American politicians and shows how metaphor is used systematically to create political myths of monsters, villains and heroes. Metaphors are shown to interact with other figures of speech to communicate subliminal meanings by drawing on the unconscious emotional association of words.

Zusammenfassung

Highly innovative approach to political communication - the first corpus-based analysis of political leaders' public speech

Unique attempt to compare the ways individual politicians use metaphor

Both metaphor studies, corpus studies and political communication are very strong areas for discourse research within Linguistics

Lively writing style and biographical approach means that there is strong human interest without linguistic jargon evidence from the hardback reception, that is useful for political communication courses
