A Filipina by birth, Emy had been living in the United States for forty years when she returned to her hometown near Tacloban on a mission trip to rebuild a local church and help the impoverished youth of the area. When the massive storm surge made landfall near them, Emy witnessed days of absent government relief and harrowing accounts of desperate individuals struggling to survive in the aftermath of the greatest typhoon of her lifetime.
