The British colonial authorities labeled them "the disturbances of the southern provinces," marking the onset of agitation for statehood in South Sudan. These disturbances escalated into a full-scale civil war in Bahr el Ghazal, Equatoria, and Upper Nile Provinces, leading Khartoum to dub them "the problem of southern Sudan." The IGAD power-sharing formula has failed to address these issues. Independence arrived prematurely, before South Sudanese patriotism could override ethnic chauvinism and parochialism.

Über den Autor
The author, Peter Adwok Nyaba, a veteran of the national liberation war and a self-styled independent person (VIP), holds a PhD in Petrology and Geochemistry from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. He has a background in student activism, trade unionism, academia, and research, and is renowned for his Noma Award-winning book "The Politics of Liberation in South Sudan: An Insider's View" (1997).
