Beschreibung
Fluid Structure Interaction (FSI) exists in various engineering fields. This book deals with different cases of FSI in 2D and 3D, simulated using OpenFOAM and foam-extend software. These packages have been used to create a coupling between fluid and solid. The vortex-induced vibration phenomenon of flow past a circular cylinder is studied using PIMPLE algorithm for pressure-velocity coupling. The changes of drag and lift coefficient values strongly depend on the study case and the spring-mass-damper system for the flow past a free oscillatory cylinder. A partitioned solution method for strongly coupled solver with independent fluid and solid meshes for transient simulation has been applied. The fluid domain dynamics is governed by the Navier-Stokes equations and the structural field by the nonlinear elastodynamic equations. Fluid and solid domains are discretized by finite volume method in space and time. CFD simulations revealed that, though the flow is laminar, use of turbulence modeling or more refined meshes to capture the generation and release of vortices. The results are presented to demonstrate accuracy, convergence, and stability of different FSI models used in this book.
