The processes of excitation and propagation of low-frequency electromagnetic waves are considered, both under natural conditions and under catastrophic phenomena of natural and technical nature. Special attention is paid to the operation of electric generators installed on the satellite. The excitation of virtual whistlers and ULF ¿ VLF emissions is shown. The interaction of radiating devices and plasma is considered on the basis of the APEX experiment. The work includes the history of the development of space research in the IZMIRAN VLF radiation laboratory at the border of the 20th and 21st centuries. Yuri Mikhailovich Mikhailov, PhD, Professor, in 1954 has graduated from the radio physical department of the Gorky State University. From that time he is still working in Institute of Terrestrial Magnetism, Ionosphere & Propagation of Radio waves (IZMIRAN). The main research direction is the investigation of low-frequency electromagnetic processes.
