Beschreibung

The 'Understanding English Pronunciation' uses an easy-to-follow format to introduce and practise the features of pronunciation that are important for intelligible communication in English.
The material is suitable for adolescent and adult learners of English as it presents learning activities and exercises through a variety of interesting topics.
Each unit examines and provides practice with a particular feature of English pronunciation, such as word stress, stress within sentences, pausing, linking and intonation.
It is recommended for private study or as a class course book for pronunciation analysis and practice. Note that answers to all activities are included in this book.
Using this book, with its accompanying audio recording, you will:
learn ways to overcome listening and pronunciation problems
hear and practise the pronunciation of new words
learn to hear the difference between the individual sounds of English in context
hear extended stretches of speech which demonstrate features of spoken language
examine the link between English spelling and pronunciation
learn to use your dictionary for independent study
feel increasing confidence as your listening and speaking skills improve.

Über den Autor

Susan was a contemporary Australian author with over twenty non-fiction TESOL resource titles in print. Her first book, published in 1998, 'Understanding Everyday Australian - Book One' is still in demand today. In the mid-2000s she followed her passion for early Australia history and published 'Across Great Divides - true stories of life at Sydney Cove' then followed the with her young reader edition 'Stories of Life at Sydney [...] sadly, in 2021 Susan, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and passed away in February, [...]'s many achievements include attaining a BA, MA and Grad Dip. In 2019 she commenced her Masters, and has been awarded a posthumous PhD. She was a dedicated and passionate researcher in the English language and early Australian history areas. Susan gave many presentations on TESOL subjects both domestically and internationally. Susan completed over 50 historical author talks and was on the ABC 'Conversations' with Richard Fidler in April 2015.
