Beschreibung
He left Sardinia with nothing but calloused hands and a promise to himself: he would never let that land swallow him alive.
Domenico "Il Lupo" is a graded reader in Italian that follows a young Sardinian sharecropper's journey from the merciless fields of a cruel landlord's estate to the markets beneath the Brooklyn Bridge - where sheer commercial ferocity earns him a new name, and a fortune few could imagine. But the money that buys his way home carries a price he'll never speak of again.
Written for B1 learners, this is one of the most engaging Italian short stories for adults learning the language - twelve chapters of sharp, authentic Italian prose, no invented textbook scenarios, no dumbed-down dialogue. A real story, written to be read.
This graded reader is designed for real learning, not just reading:Authentic Italian narrative at B1 level, with natural dialogue and B1 connectives
English footnotes for every unfamiliar word - no dictionary needed
Grammar focus on one key structure per chapter
Comprehension exercises after every chapter (true/false, multiple choice, fill-in-the-blank, and free writing)
Answer key included at the end of every chapter
Cultural notes on Sardinian history, Italian emigration to America, Ellis Island, the Brooklyn Bridge markets, and the Black Hand extortion racket
Perfect for you if:You want to read real Italian stories, not textbook exercises
You're at A2 or B1 level and looking for a graded reader that actually challenges you
You enjoy historical fiction set in early 20th-century Italy and New York
You want to improve your Italian reading comprehension and vocabulary in context
Some men come home rich. Domenico came home a wolf.

Über den Autor
Domenico Preziosi is a CEDILS-certified teacher of Italian as a foreign language (Ca' Foscari University, Venice), with a degree in Cultural Anthropology from the University of Cagliari. That academic background shaped a lasting fascination with how people actually learn languages - not from rules, but from [...] path to teaching was anything but linear. Before Italian classrooms, there was a Master's degree in Tourism Economics from Bocconi University, hands-on work in permaculture design, and years spent managing tourism services and international relations. Each of these experiences left him with a fresh set of stories, settings, and characters to draw from - material that eventually found its way into his books.Domenico doesn't consider himself a writer in the traditional sense. He describes himself first as a teacher trying to help his students - and it was one specific student who changed the direction of his work: a young boy from Kazakhstan, newly arrived in Italy, who needed to learn Italian from zero just to start school. That experience shaped how Domenico thinks about reading material for language learners: stories that are simple and fluid, but never dull; entertaining and well-paced, but built to genuinely teach something [...] graded readers use Italy itself as the backdrop - not a postcard version of the country, but one that shows its contradictions, its regional differences, its light side and its dark side. He avoids stereotypes and easy narratives, preferring characters who are unpredictable and human, flaws included, because that's how a country is actually [...] goal is simple: readers who finish one book already want to start the next.
