Beschreibung
You know English. Yet when the question arrives, the word disappears, the answer loses direction, or the pressure of the moment makes everything harder to reach.
From Knowledge to Performance is a research-informed practical guide for serious upper-intermediate and advanced learners preparing for English oral examinations. It examines the gap between knowing a language and being able to use it immediately while listening, thinking, interacting and being assessed at the same time.
Across eighteen chapters, Adel Rowan shows readers how to listen to the complete question before preparing a response; judge how much an answer requires and develop ideas without unnecessary repetition; interact genuinely with a partner and move a discussion forward; paraphrase when the exact word will not come; balance fluency and accuracy without becoming paralysed by mistakes; manage nerves, interruption and unexpected difficulty; and recover quickly enough to keep communication alive.
Drawing on second-language research, more than thirty years of teaching experience and many years of assessing spoken English in international examination settings, the book combines realistic candidate examples with practical routines that can be repeated across different topics and examination systems.
This is not a collection of model answers, memorised phrases or board-specific tricks. It is a guide to becoming more responsive, resourceful and communicatively effective when the answer has to come now.
