Über den Autor
Emily Brontë (1818-1848) spent most of her life in a stone parsonage in the small village of Haworth on the wild and bleak Yorkshire moors. Despite the isolation of Haworth, the Brontë family shared a rich literary life.
Zusammenfassung
THE 1847 TEXT

The two-volume first edition of the novel-the only one produced in Emily's lifetime, but which neglected to include most of her own corrections-is reprinted here, incorporating some adjustments from her sister Charlotte to an 1850 edition and other editorial emendations from Alexandra Lewis (all explained in a note on the text). The dialect speech of the 1847 version is retained, translated in footnotes for clarity.

NEW MATERIAL

Three of the twenty-one poems by Emily Brontë included here are new to the Norton Critical Edition, as is her devoir "The Cat". Three new critical interpretations are also featured here, alongside two seminal pieces-one by Martha Nussbaum and the other by Sandra M. Gilbert and Susan Gubar.
