The book Women Beyond the Canon: Philosophies and Feminisms aims to amplify the voices of historical women thinkers, ideas and traditions that have been silenced within both the classical canon of philosophy and feminism. The intellectual perspectives articulated in this volume are far from uniform; rather, they weave an expansive and global tapestry of manifold modes of thought, philosophical practices, and efforts to dismantle mechanisms of marginalization and speak for the hitherto forgotten. The book not only represents a cultivation of novel intellectual spaces, emphasizing a reformation of standard narratives, but also gestures toward a reimagination of philosophy itself to expose blind spots of the now slowly transforming canon.

Zusammenfassung

Namita Herzl is working as a research assistant at the project Philosophizing in a Globalized World at the University of Hildesheim. Her academic journey is rooted in exploring traditions beyond the classical canon and amplifying the voices of women philosophers who have been historically marginalized. She is focusing on the intersections of gender, race, feminisms, and mysticism examining how central female figures contribute to the global history of philosophy. Namita Herzl is the co-editor, alongside Anke Graness, of the book Christoph August Heumann: Acta Philosopharum, das ist, Nachricht von der Philosophie des Frauenzimmers (2023), which highlights contributions of women philosophers and seeks to make their perspectives more visible in the broader philosophical discourse.
