Über den Autor
John Tepper Marlin is a former government economist who served as chief economist in New York City under three Mayors (Dinkins, Giuliani, Bloomberg) and as a federal government economist in Washington, DC, in four administrations (Johnson, Nixon, Obama, and Trump. He translated Erik Schaap's book from Dutch and then, with the original author's encouragement, edited it heavily for an English-speaking audience and added more than 700 endnotes. He grew up in a home where Dutch was spoken by his mother and grandmother-but only when they didn't want him to understand what they were talking about, namely the deaths and dislocations in the Netherlands caused by the Nazi Occupation. Dr. Marlin's mother, Hilda van Stockum, was a cousin of Walraven (Wally) van Hall and wrote a children's book, The Winged Watchman" (Farrar Straus, 1962; Bethlehem Books, 1995), that has sold 300,000 copies.
