Beschreibung
Do you practise 'healthy eating', consuming your 'five portions of fruit and vegetables' per day and shunning fats in favour of complex carbohydrates. Then you could be doing exactly what is most harmful to your health and helping to support one of the world's biggest and most lucrative industries - the healthcare industry.
Trick and Treat asks the questions:has 'healthy eating' coincided with a reduction in health problems and health spending?
who benefits from the effects of 'healthy eating'?
what is the evidence to support the principles of 'healthy eating'?
if 'healthy eating' isn't healthy, what is?
Bringing together over a century of relevant findings, including classic papers and the latest research, Barry Groves examines each of these issues in depth and concludes that there is a simple, evidence-based alternative approach that will allow us all to take charge of our own health.

Über den Autor
Barry Groves could rightfully claim to be Britain's leading exponent of the low-carb way of life, introducing this to the general public in his writing in the 1990s. He lived on, researched, lectured and wrote about it for well over 40 years and conquered his family's time bomb of death through heart disease in the early 50s to live to 77. He and wife Monica were overweight from 1957 to 1962, when he discovered the low-carb regime for weight loss. It worked; theywere never overweight again and Monica continues to thrive on this lifestyle. This discovery started his questioning of conventional diets. As a consequence he took up full-time research into the relationship between diet and 'diseases of civilisation' such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease and cancer. As a result of his researches, he realised that the perceived wisdom, both of low-calorie dieting for weight loss and 'healthy eating' for the control of heart disease, was seriously flawed. Trick & Treat is the most comprehensive account of his findings.
