Über den Autor
Voltaire (1694-1778) was a French writer, philosopher, and dramatist associated with the Enlightenment. His work spans a wide range of forms, including plays, essays, historical writing, and philosophical fiction, and is characterised by its clarity, wit, and engagement with questions of reason, tolerance, and [...] addition to his better-known philosophical writings, Voltaire produced a significant body of dramatic work, much of it drawing on classical subjects. His tragedies reflect the influence of French neoclassicism, adapting ancient themes to the intellectual and cultural concerns of his own time. Orestes forms part of this tradition, demonstrating his approach to classical material and his contribution to eighteenth-century theatre.
