"Nutter."

"Oaf."

"Liar."

Could the words Alfred sees on his glasses and windows be any more honest?

Alfred's life was normal, idyllic even, without all the insults darkening every surface through which he views the world.

An immigrant seeks work, and Alfred sees an enemy. Consumed by paranoia and guided by fear, Alfred's war lands the Mexican in prison. All should return to normal...

But it doesn't. He knows he's going mad and the insults are truths.

He senses his sanity fraying further when his teenage daughter expects him to free the man he's wronged, never suspecting that he had instigated it.

Then, the unimaginable happens. His wife dies, and he must care for his daughter when he can't even care for himself.

Could he have been wrong about the words all along? Because surely, one man alone couldn't have scrawled every insult on his glasses and windows and convinced the world to deny seeing the messages. Were the words ever even real?

A psychological thriller with a supernatural element exploring family dysfunction, shame and identity in 1950s suburban America.

Über den Autor
T. M. Bennett grew up in the worlds of The Lord of the Rings and Star Wars, running through the woods with a homemade bow, a stick for a sword (or lightsaber), and occasionally a cloak. Those childhood adventures taught him that the best stories are built on characters worth following into darkness. Now, he crafts brutal, character-driven stories that don't shy away from the cost of heroism. He lives near the west coast of Michigan with a shy spren and is always hunting for the next story that makes him feel like that kid in the woods again.
