The Wars of the Roses was a period of major crisis in English politics and in the lives of land-owning classes. Drawing on a large amount of detailed material written over the past 25 years on local and national politics, this book attempts to explain why the Wars occurred and with what results, by placing them in the context of the expectations and beliefs of the ruling classes regarding kingship and governance at the time.
