In economics, money illusion refers to the tendency of people to think of currency in nominal, rather than real, terms. This is a fallacy as modern fiat currencies have no inherent value and their real value is derived from their ability to be exchanged for goods and used for payment of taxes. The term was coined by John Maynard Keynes in the early twentieth century, and Irving Fisher 1928 book, The Money Illusion, is one of the most important works on the subject.

Über den Autor

Irving Fisher (1867-1947) was one of America's most influential economists and a leading figure in the development of modern monetary theory. A professor at Yale University, he made significant contributions to the study of prices, interest rates, capital, and economic measurement.Fisher wrote extensively on economics, statistics, public health, and social reform. His works, including The Purchasing Power of Money and The Theory of Interest, helped establish foundations of twentieth-century economic thought, and his ideas continue to influence economists and policymakers today.
