His early life was marked by poverty, and he spent his youth moving between various family homes. Sterne's ecclesiastical career was initially conventional, but his later years saw a shift toward writing, where his comedic genius came to the forefront. Best known for The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman and A Sentimental Journey Through France and Italy, he became a celebrated literary figure.
