Über den Autor

David Kal¿kaua (1836-1891), also known as The Merrie Monarch, was the king of Hawaii from 1874 to his death. Born into a noble family, he was educated at the Chiefs' Children's School. He later studied law under Charles Coffin Harris, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Hawaii. Kal¿kaua held multiple military positions including Knight Companion of the Royal Order. Following the death of King Kamehameha V, Kal¿kaua was elected his successor against Queen Emma. Throughout his reign, he was known for his lively social events and was a proponent of the Hawaiian Renaissance, a resurgence of the island's culture.
