A coming-of-middle-age journey for three women who meet by chance in the emergency room of a hospital, and discover that more than their medical issues need help.
Bláithín is divorced after a deeply unhappy marriage. Having had the same job for decades, she finds herself being made redundant at an age when she will struggle to find more work. Living in a house at the end of her brother's garden and avoiding his sharp-tongued wife, she jumps at the chance when her boss offers her his apartment in Ibiza at a reduced rate.
Cassandra, also divorced, is a brash party animal with big trust issues and an extremely 'blue' vocabulary. Having lived in Ibiza for many years when she was younger, Cassandra blithely takes a job on the island, scouting for suitable photo shoot locations, only to find Ibiza isn't quite how she remembers it.
Pamela, a sixty-two-year-old widow, moved to Ibiza with her daughter, Susan and her family. She lives in a granny flat, and is glad to be on hand to help with her grandchildren, but she can't help feeling that something is missing.
Seemingly having little in common, and all at a crossroads in their lives, they quickly form a solid friendship. The gradual deepening of the trio's friendship is the core of the book, as, with help from Tanit, the goddess of women, fertility, and water, the women are forced to examine their lives, past decisions, relationships, regrets - and embrace Ibiza's magical charms, throw caution to the wind, and discover new artistic and sexual passions they each believed had been extinguished long ago.
