Lord Dunsany (Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett, 1878-1957) was an Anglo-Irish writer and one of the earliest and most influential figures in modern fantasy literature. His works, including The Gods of Pegana, Time and the Gods, and The King of Elfland's Daughter, established many of the themes and stylistic approaches later developed by twentieth-century fantasy writers.Dunsany's writing is known for its mythic tone, imaginative scope, and distinctive prose style. He is widely regarded as a foundational influence on authors such as H. P. Lovecraft, J. R. R. Tolkien, and others who expanded the boundaries of fantasy literature.
