"How many scars do you have to justify
Because you love the person holding the knife?
Because that person
Was the one who brought you to life?
Because that person
Said they love you too, unconditionally?"
"- Does he hold your hand
Or did he try to go under your skirt?
-At least he's never laid his hand on me
Like you did"
* * *
In "The edge of the bed" readers are invited on an intimate and vulnerable journey marked by unresolved childhood trauma and the heartache caused by a love that never quite fits. This collection is a sore reflection of pain, healing, and the bittersweetness of a past that foreshadows future relationships. The poet revisits the fractured childhood memories where love was conditional, and apologies were currency. Each poem is a puzzle piece, piecing together the poet's shattered identity.

Über den Autor
Ann Nguyen was born and raised in Hanoi, Vietnam, in a middle-class family of four. Growing up as war children, her parents were neglected by their parents and later on, constantly found themselves struggling to meet the family's physical needs. Their rough childhoods and distorted beliefs about peace manifested in Ann's self-perception and romantic relationship. When Ann moved to Germany, she experienced first-hand the conflicting narratives of Vietnamese history taught at her university and the one she had believed in for 20 years. This disruption results in her questioning the relationship with her parents, as well as the repeating destructive patterns of all previous failed romantic relationships. Her background in literature and language from 12 years of school comes in handy as she translates this journey into poetry.
