Motorization: Focuses on the motorcycle not the car as the most important cultural commodity of early motorization in Germany.

Gender and Consumption: Focuses on masculinity not only femininity in exploring how motorization as a practice of consumption shaped gender.

Extends and amends standard interpretations of class and gender in the Weimar Republic.

Unique archive of sources and interdisciplinary approach: From official juridical records to popular culture, takes a "mobility studies" approach to the history of motorization during the Weimar Republic.
