Beschreibung
The Highland stalking hound, romanticised by Scott and Landseer, and nearly lost before either of them was done with it.
The Deerhound - A Complete Anthology of the Dog gathers breed chapters from the rare kennel literature of 1897 to 1930, among them H. W. Huntington's My Dog and I (1897), Frank Townend Barton's Hounds (1913) and Edward C. Ash's The Practical Dog Book (1930). The period writers class it with the Irish Wolfhound among the sight hounds, and describe a dog bred to course red deer over open Highland ground - a job that had all but vanished by the time they were writing.
Points, coat, temperament, coursing ability, the great kennels and the pedigrees of the celebrated dogs are all here, with the original photographs reproduced throughout.
