This volume contains a collection of essays and assorted writings on the subject of the Brontë sisters by G. K . Chesterton, Virginia Woolf, Mrs Gaskell, Mrs Oliphant, and other notable writers. The Brontës were a famous literary family during the nineteenth century synonymous with the West Riding area of Yorkshire, England. The sisters, Charlotte (18161855), Emily (18181848), and Anne (18201849), are now world-famous poets and novelists; and their father, Patrick Brontë (1777 1861), was also an author. Numerous novels produced by this family have since become classics of English literature. Contents include: Biographical Notice of Ellis and Acton Bell, A Poem by Charlotte Brontë on The Death of Anne Brontë, Home Life of Great Authors By Hattie Tyng Griswold, Some Eminent Women of Our Times - Short Biographical Sketches - By Millicent Fawcett, Women of History Selected From the Writings of Standard Authors By Mrs Gaskell, Studies in Early Victorian Literature By Frederic Harrison, etc. Many vintage books such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive.
