In The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Arthur Conan Doyle gathers the first short stories featuring the great consulting detective and his faithful chronicler, Dr John Watson. Each case begins with a puzzle: a mysterious photograph, a strange employment offer, a missing fiancé, five orange pips, a Christmas goose, a terrified young woman and a deadly secret behind locked doors.

These stories show Holmes at his most iconic - observing what others miss, reconstructing hidden motives and exposing crimes concealed beneath wealth, rank, fear or domestic respectability.

The collection includes many of the best-loved Holmes adventures, among them "A Scandal in Bohemia", "The Red-Headed League", "The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle" and "The Adventure of the Speckled Band". Together they shaped the enduring image of Baker Street, the brilliant detective and the loyal narrator who follows him into the shadows of Victorian London.

First published in book form on 14 October 1892, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes brought together the twelve stories first printed in The Strand Magazine from July 1891 to June 1892. It is presented here as Volume 3 of The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection, arranged according to the order of original publication.
