Finally! The size of the scuba diving industry.
2nd Edition: updated market data, more data & more accuracy in dive industry market statistics. Dive equipment, scuba certifications, and dive travel. USA, Europe, and worldwide. Dive industry market data is hard to find. Some scuba statistics are publicly available, but most financial and market information is hidden. We did an extensive search to identify available and reliable market and economic data sources on the scuba diving industry. We summarized it for you, and we analyzed it to determine the size of the scuba diving industry.
In addition to our own Business of Diving Institute surveys, we reviewed data from numerous sources, including OIA, BEA, DEMA, SFIA, U.S. Census Bureau, TIV Germany, RSTC Europe, Scubapro, Mares, Beuchat, Aqua Lung, BWMG, Shearwater, and PADI.
In addition to scuba diving, we also look at snorkeling, freediving, rebreather diving, and tech diving.
These are the most official unofficial numbers for the scuba diving industry.

Über den Autor
About the Author"Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there." ~Will Rogers I absolutely love this quote because it perfectly captures my journey in both life and the dive industry. I did not start out as a scuba professional. I actually began my career as an engineer, which probably explains my obsession with safety checklists and thoroughly analyzing how dive gear actually works. Before diving completely took over my life, I gained extensive experience across a wide variety of fields, including sporting goods manufacturing, radio and TV broadcasting, transportation, digital marketing, and education. Eventually, I transitioned from the corporate rail industry into the dive world, and I went all in. I became an Instructor Trainer and a Course Director with multiple dive training agencies, specializing in both recreational and technical diving. But I didn't stop at just teaching people how to breathe underwater. Over the years, I have owned and managed local dive shops, dive gear distributors, wholesalers, tropical dive resorts, and charter boats across Canada and the USA. I even headed up the scuba diving program at a major North American university and served on the Board of Directors for the Diving Equipment & Marketing Association (DEMA). Having seen the scuba industry from basically every possible angle, I realized that our antiquated business model desperately needed an overhaul to actually prioritize the customer. I saw too many corners being cut and way too many new divers dropping out. That realization led me to establish the Business of Diving Institute (BODI). Through BODI, we publish platforms like Scubanomics for dive professionals and Scuba Diver Press for recreational divers to champion consistency and improve the quality of the underwater experience. Today, when I am not hovering over a reef or exploring a sunken wreck, you can find me working as an author and public speaker, occasionally tapping into my background as a radio announcer. My ultimate goal is incredibly simple: I want to share the unvarnished truth about the dive industry so you can easily skip the mistakes I made and confidently enjoy a lifetime of legendary underwater adventures.
