Art, Identity, and the Meaning of Home

What does home mean? Is it a place, a feeling, or an idea? Swiss artist Sandra Knecht has been exploring this complex concept for nearly a decade, examining it from geographical, historical, sociological, philosophical, and culinary perspectives. Her artistic practice blends cooking, photography, film, installation, and performance, continuously redefining identity and belonging.

This 288-page artist book presents Knecht's new photographic series Tschinn, unique work documentations, and images from her extensive archive. It accompanies the exhibition Home Is a Foreign Place at the Kulturstiftung Basel H. Geiger | KBH.G, which represents the culmination of ten years of artistic research and Knecht's largest solo exhibition to date. This book is a profound exploration of how our understanding of home evolves and how deeply it shapes human existence-offering a compelling reflection on origin, diversity, and identity.

What to Expect in This Book:

  • 170 high-quality images offering unique insights into Knecht's work
  • An in-depth examination of home, identity, and diversity
  • Documentation of the exhibition "Home Is a Foreign Place"
