Sophia Su¿ßmilch (geb. 1983 in Dachau, lebt und arbeitet in Berlin) schafft mit ihrem multimedialen Ansatz eigenwillige Welten in der Verbindung von Malerei, Skulptur, Installation, Performance und Video. Ob in naiver und psychedelischer Manier gemalte, hängende Bru¿ste, die Alphörnern gleichen, aus Keramik gefertigte Ani, die wie Vogelschwärme die Museumswand einnehmen, oder aber Selbstdarstellungen mit allerlei Requisite und immer nackt: In ihrer agitierenden Direktheit u¿bertragen Su¿ßmilchs Arbeiten tiefgreifende ästhetische Erfahrungen zu Schönheitsidealen, Geschlechterrollen und gesellschaftlichen Normen auf die Leinwand, das Fotopapier und in den Ausstellungsraum.

transformiert die Ku¿nstlerin fu¿r einen Monat das Francisco Carolinum Linz in ihr eigenes klinisches Universum - eine Mischung aus Psychiatrie und verkommenem Prinzessinnenschloss. Ein riesiges mit meterlangen Kunsthaaren verziertes und einer Vagina ähnelndem Bett bildet das Zentrum ihrer illustren Klinik und wird zur Bu¿hne fu¿r Su¿ßmilchs Auseinandersetzung mit den Themen Pflege, Krankheit, Frausein und Patriarchat. Neben der Fertigstellung dieses Mobiliars bestimmt ein strikter Tagesablauf das Projekt. Im Kern stehen Gespräche mit 25 Frauen. Anhand von 25 Fragen erstellt Su¿ßmilch ihre eigene Weltlösungsformel, die leitend fu¿r die gleichnamige Publikation ist. Tagebucheinträge und weitere Materialien ergänzen die Gespräche. Mit einer Einfu¿hrung von der Kunsthistorikerin Gabriele Spindler und einem Gespräch zwischen Clemens J. Setz und der Ku¿nstlerin.

Dachau, 1983; lives and works in Berlin) pursues a multimedia creative approach, fabricating eccentric worlds that blend painting and sculpture, installation, performance, and video art. Pendulous breasts painted in a nai¿ve and psychedelic style that look like alphorns; ceramic anuses that populate the museum's wall like flocks of birds; self-portraits with all sorts of props, always stark naked: in their agitational directness, Su¿ßmilch's works transmit profound aesthetic experiences that reflect beauty ideals, gender roles, and social norms to the canvas, the photographic paper, and into the exhibition space.

For her monthlong
Sanatorium Su¿ßmilch,
the artist transforms the Francisco Carolinum Linz into her own clinical universe-a mix of psychiatry and run-down princess palace. Kitted out with yard after yard of artificial hair, a giant bed that resembles a vagina forms the center of her illustrious clinic and serves as the stage for Su¿ßmilch's engagement with the themes of care, illness, womanhood, and patriarchy. The work of finishing the furniture is one key aspect of the project; the other is a tightly organized daily schedule, which centers on conversations with twenty-five women. Probing twenty-five questions, Su¿ßmilch devises her own global-solution formula, which structures the publication of the same title. Diary entries and other materials complement the conversations. With an introduction by the art historian Gabriele Spindler and a conversation between the artist and Clemens J. Setz.
