Über den Autor
Leokadia Schmidt (1914-1984) was a Jewish Holocaust survivor born in Warsaw, Poland. Together with her husband, Józef, and their infant son, she escaped the Warsaw Ghetto in 1942 and survived the remainder of the war in hiding on the "Aryan side" of Warsaw. During this time, she secretly recorded her experiences, documenting the destruction of the ghetto and her family's struggle to [...] the war, Leokadia and her family emigrated first to Paris and later to Caracas, Venezuela, before eventually settling in Phoenix, Arizona. Her wartime diary, rescued from the ruins of Warsaw, was published as Rescued from the Ashes: The Diary of Leokadia Schmidt, Survivor of the Warsaw Ghetto, preserving her firsthand account for future generations.
