Not Finished Yet: Finding Purpose, Direction, and Faith in Life's Later Chapters is an invitation to rediscover meaning, adventure, and spiritual vitality in the second half of life.
Many people assume that aging means slowing down, stepping aside, or quietly coasting toward the finish line. But what if the later chapters are not the winding down-but the rising crescendo? What if experience, endurance, and faith have been preparing you for a season of renewed calling?
Drawing from a life shaped by ministry, leadership, hardship, global adventure, and deep spiritual reflection, Barry Phillips offers a practical and inspiring guide for anyone who senses there must be "more" ahead. With warmth, honesty, humor, and biblical insight, he explores the challenges that accompany aging-physical limitation, loss, uncertainty, and changing roles-while revealing how these very realities can become the soil of renewed purpose.
Each chapter combines story, reflection, and practical application, guiding readers to:Reframe aging as a season of calling, not decline
Discover fresh purpose and direction
Cultivate resilience through suffering and limitation
Embrace faith as an active, forward-moving journey
Leave a legacy that matters
Rather than offering clichés or sentimentality, Not Finished Yet delivers a realistic, hope-filled roadmap for finishing life strong-spiritually alive, mission-minded, and fully engaged.
Whether you are approaching retirement, navigating a transition, facing loss, or simply asking what comes next, this book will remind you: your story is still being written.
You are not finished yet.

Über den Autor
Barry Phillips and his wife Lilia served as missionaries in the Philippines for twenty years. His mother died in early March, 2020 and the couple returned to the United States to attend his mother's funeral; COVID prevented his return home. Barry and his wife, Lilia initially stayed at a hotel in Franklin, TN until it closed its doors due to COVID. Then they moved into an Air B&B in Franklin for about six weeks before opting to buy a townhouse in Spring Hill. International borders remained closed, and there was no indication that they would open again soon. They remain in Spring Hill as COVID "refugees", traveling back to the Philippines each year to assist in ministry there. Barry soon discovered that there seemed to be no demand for a sixty-five-year-old ex-missionary. He was unable to find employment even though he had two master's degrees, had served for twenty years as an Air Force analyst, and had worked as a successful system's consultant in a software company. Employers desired recent experience, and they were not interested in a church planter, pastor, or Bible school instructor. Even local churches had little interest in hiring Barry due to his age, but welcomed him as a volunteer. So, Barry opted to make and sell guitars and began to write again. Having written four previous books, Barry found writing to be therapeutic. And this time he wrote based on his current personal experience, speaking honestly about seasons of change, limitation, and transition. Not Finished Yet: Finding Purpose, Direction, and Faith in Life's Later Chapters is his newest book. It was written for adults who sense that something has shifted and are seeking a faithful way forward. The book is written in four parts: (1) Defining the Shift, (2) Learning to Live Differently; (3) Faithfulness Without Guarantees, and (4) Finishing With Hope. He doesn't offer a quick fix, instead, he extends something far more durable: a reframing of vocation, perseverance, and hope when the future feels smaller than it once did.
