Über den Autor
Steve Fisher (1912-1980) was an American pulp writer, novelist, and screenwriter whose work bridged the worlds of detective magazines, slick magazines, paperback originals, and Hollywood film noir. He published under his own name and under pseudonyms including Stephen Gould and Grant Lane, and his fiction appeared in major pulp venues including Black Mask, where he helped develop a more emotionally charged and psychologically uneasy form of crime writing. His novels include The Night Before Murder, Homicide Johnny, I Wake Up Screaming, Winter Kill, and No House Limit.Fisher also became a successful Hollywood screenwriter, with credits connected to films such as Lady in the Lake, Dead Reckoning, Johnny Angel, and City That Never Sleeps. His best crime fiction is marked by speed, mood, fatalism, and the pressure of desire, fear, and social failure. For readers of classic noir, hardboiled mystery, pulp detective fiction, and mid-century American crime writing, Fisher remains an important figure: a writer who carried pulp urgency into both the noir novel and the film-noir tradition.
