Eugene J. Cohen was ordained by Yeshiva University, and he received his Ph.D. from Boston University. He served as both a rabbi in a synagogue and as chaplain. His synagogue rabbinic leadership was in Boston and New York.

As chaplain, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. At the conclusion of hostilities he was active in the underground organization that led most of the 400,000 survivors to Palestine. He also served for many years as Chief of Chaplains at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y.

Rabbi Cohen served as a leader of the following: Brith Milah Board of America, New York Board of Rabbis, American Parkinson Disease Association, Rabbinical Council of America, Religious Zionists of America, Association of Jewish Chaplains and member of Medical Ethics Committee of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies. He delivered hundreds of messages on radio and television.

Rabbi Cohen has written in several fields: religion, education, substance abuse and medical ethics. He supervised the translation of the Jewish Prayer Book published by the U.S. Government. This is his 84rd published work.

His biographical sketch appeared in "Who's Who in the World."
