Gustav Theodor Fechner (1801-1887) was an early pioneer in experimental psychology, founder of psychophysics, and introduced the median into the formal analysis of data. The still-mysterious perceptual illusion where colors are seen in a moving pattern of black and white is still called the Fechner color effect.
