Beschreibung
A novel of movement, identity, and empire, Kim follows the journey of a young boy across the landscapes of British India, combining adventure with observation of culture and place.
The narrative centres on Kimball O'Hara, an orphaned boy navigating the cities, roads, and rural regions of India. Moving between different communities and environments, Kim develops relationships that shape both his experience and his understanding of identity. His travels bring him into contact with a wide range of figures, from soldiers and officials to holy men and travellers, creating a layered view of the society through which he moves.
Alongside its episodic structure, the novel incorporates elements of political intrigue and intelligence work, often referred to as the "Great Game." These elements are balanced with a sustained attention to setting, language, and the rhythms of daily life. The result is a work that combines narrative movement with detailed observation, reflecting both the conditions of the period and Kipling's approach to storytelling.

Über den Autor
Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936) was an English writer and poet whose work is closely associated with the literature of the British Empire. Born in Bombay (now Mumbai), India, he spent his early years immersed in the languages, cultures, and environments that would later inform much of his writing. His familiarity with the region contributed to the detailed settings and observational quality found in works such as Kim.Kipling's body of work includes novels, short stories, and poetry, among them The Jungle Book, Just So Stories, and numerous tales set in India and beyond. In 1907, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, becoming the first English-language writer to receive the honour. His writing continues to be studied for its narrative skill, its portrayal of place, and its role within the literary and historical context of its time.
