Written by an officer of the 2nd battalion, London Scottish Regiment, and illustrated by the author's own beautifully done pen and ink drawings, maps and photographs, the book narrates the closing stages of Allenby's meticulously prepared and conducted campaign to expel the Turks from the Holy Land, culminating in the conquest of Jerusalem. As Allenby himself writes in his preface, 'Palestine was occupied, and Jerusalem won, as the result of hard marching and fierce fighting in which the author had a forward part. He tells us how war looks from the point of view of the man in the front row; and the record of his experiences makes fascinating reading'.
