How to Raise Kids Who Aren't Assholes is a clear, actionable, sometimes humorous (but always science-based) guide for parents on how to shape their kids into honest, kind, generous, confident, independent, and resilient people…who just might save the world one day.
On social media, in the news, and from the highest levels are government, kids are increasingly getting the message that being selfish, obnoxious and cruel is okay. We know, of course, that young people have the capacity for great empathy, resilience, and action, and we all want to bring up kids who will help build a better tomorrow. But how do we actually do this?
How to Raise Kids Who Aren't Assholes is a deeply researched, evidence-based primer that provides a fresh, often surprising perspective on parenting issues, from toddlerhood through the teenage years. Science journalist Melinda Moyer outlines the traits we want our children to possess-including honesty, generosity, and antiracism-and then she provides scientifically-based strategies that will help parents instill those characteristics in their kids. Learn how to raise the kind of kids you actually want to hang out with-and who just might save the world.

Zusammenfassung
FROM TOTS TO TEENS: Melinda Moyer tackles the hot-button issues every parent grapples with-like selfishness, lying, sexism, racism, bullying, technology, and sibling conflict-from a judgment-free, research-first perspective. She tells parents when to worry (and, crucially, when NOT to be concerned), and offers clear, actionable strategies for kids in elementary, middle, and high school ages.
STELLAR HARDCOVER PUBLICITY: Moyer is an award-winning science journalist, and is a contributing editor at Scientific American and a parenting columnist for Slate. How to Raise Kids Who Aren't Assholes received great coverage at the New York Times, Scientific American, Parents magazine utilizing these contacts. We expect even more media hits in the coming months leading up to publication.
PLAYFUL, RELATABLE VOICE: As the title suggests, Moyer brings a conversational, fun tone to her writing that brings to mind You Can't Fuck Up Your Kids and Shitty Mom, with all the research that we look for in similar titles such as Expecting Better and Cribsheet.
RESEARCH AND PROVEN SOLUTIONS: Moyer is the winner of the 2019 Bricker Award-an award that recognizes writers with the skill to craft technical advances into must-read stories, and the tenacity to place them in the public spotlight. She brings this technical talent to her writing and hones in on how to create compassionate and generous children through hundreds of research studies, creating actionable items that she has seen work on her own children.
STRONG PAPERBACK BACKLIST CATEGORY: Parenting books have proven to have very long lives in the paperback format, and even sell better than the hardcover, as evidenced by our own Michele Borba's Unselfie, Amanda Ripley's The Smartest Kids in the World, Lisa Damour's Untangled, and Emily Oster's Expecting Better. We are excited to provide this fan-favorite format for readers.
