Far too many Christians make a verbal proclamation of faith, yet remain unchanged in heart and lifestyle. But Scripture makes it clear that holiness, in its place and proportion, is quite as important as justification. Holiness, without which no one shall see the Lord (Hebrews 12:14). It is imperative that Christians are biblically and truly holy.

Über den Autor

John Charles Ryle (1816-1900) se graduó en Eton y Oxford y luego hizo carrera política, pero por falta de fondos ingresó en el clero de la Iglesia de Inglaterra. Fue contemporáneo de Spurgeon, Moody, Mueller y Taylor y leyó a los grandes teólogos como Wesley, Bunyan, Knox, Calvino y Lutero. Todos ellos influyeron en la comprensión y la teología de Ryle. Ryle comenzó su carrera de escritor con un tratado a raíz de la tragedia del puente colgante de Great Yarmouth, donde se ahogaron más de cien personas. Se ganó la reputación de predicar y evangelizar con franqueza. Viajó, predicó y escribió más de 300 folletos, tratados y libros, entre los que se encuentran Pensamientos Expositivos sobre los Evangelios, Principios para los Hombres de la Iglesia y Líderes Cristianos del Siglo XVIII. Ryle utilizó los derechos de autor de sus escritos para pagar las deudas de su padre, pero también se sentía en deuda con esa ruina por haber cambiado el rumbo de su vida. Fue recomendado por el primer ministro Benjamin Disraeli para ser obispo de Liverpool, donde terminó su carrera en 1900.
