A landmark volume linking theory to research and practice in the continuum of health behavior

Advancing the science of health behavior through the informed application of health behavior theories, the new Sixth Edition of Health Behavior: Theory, Research, and Practice is the definitive text for students, practitioners, and scientists in these areas. This edition covers new developments in health behavior theories and their application in new settings, and in new ways.

The book analyzes key components of health behavior theories, describing current applications of them and identifying important future directions for research and practice in health behavior change. The new edition also draws on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, including a focus on social inequities, health behaviors and health outcomes.

Health Behavior: Theory, Research, and Practice, Sixth Edition explores:

  • The link between culture and health, and Ecological Models, the importance of community
  • Leading theories of health behavior, including the Health Belief Model, the Theory of Reasoned Action, and The Transtheoretical Model, and their applications
  • The push toward evidence-based interventions and global applications
  • How e-health and social media factor into health communication

Written and edited by leading health and social theorists and researchers, this book provides real-world perspective with a solid approach for the analysis and improvement of health behaviors and health.
