Beschreibung
This book provides useful information on microbial physiology and metabolism. The key aspects covered are prokaryotic diversity, growth physiology, basic metabolic pathways and their regulation, metabolic diversity with details of various unique pathways. Another focus area is stress physiology with details on varying environmental stresses, signal transduction, adaptation and survival. For instructional purposes, the book provides case studies, interesting facts, techniques etc. which help in showcasing the inter-disciplinary nature and bridge the gap between various aspects of applied microbiology.

She has over 30 years of teaching experience in the subjects of Microbial Physiology and Metabolism, Prokaryotic and eukaryotic diversity, Bacteriology and Environmental Microbiology, besides mentoring PhD, M Phil and MSc students. Her major areas of research interest include microbial enzymes of industrial applications and development of sustainable green solutions using enzymes to substitute chemical based processes. She has published over 130 highly cited research/review articles and is also a reviewer for several international journals of repute. She has had many national and international research collaborations over the years and has significant research achievements to her credit.
Dr. Namita Gupta, is currently a Senior Manager at Foundation For Innovation and Technology Transfer (FITT), an academia-industry interface organization of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. She earned her PhD in Microbiology at the University of Delhi and has over 15 years of professional experience in the areas of areas of biotechnology-oriented research, patent research & IP solutions, technology valuation & transfers, techno-commercial evaluation of innovative technologies, technology financing and industrial collaborations.
Zusammenfassung

Microbial metabolic pathways have been dealt with in a simplified, easy to understand manner to maximally benefit the beginners (under-graduates and graduates) who do not have background of this domain. Their interest is further stimulated by some interesting facts, know-hows etc.

Every chapter has been written in a manner to enable post-graduate students understand how the basic subjects of physiology and metabolism integrate with the disciplines such as environmental microbiology, product biotechnology, pathogenesis, etc.

Researchers who wish to enter the field of metabolic engineering or pathogenesis will find this book interesting as selected case studies and techniques too have been incorporated, which will help them in understanding in a nutshell the basics of the subjects and the approach to strain development and drug targeting.
