Beschreibung
Franz Liszt completed his Piano Sonata in B minor at Weimar in 1853. One hundred seventy years have passed since the publication in 1854 by the Breitkopf & Härtel publishing house. In the meantime, the Sonata has established itself as one of the most beloved and frequently performed works for piano solo. While a multitude of different editions have been published to this day, every one of them (even Urtext editions) had its shortcomings which were often copied from earlier editors. The current Urtext edition by Szász, Carter, and Adler corrects the most important flaws by giving Liszt's manuscript its proper weight. The editorial principles of Szász, Adler, and Carter have received critical support from scholars and performers such as Charles Rosen, Marc-André Hamelin, and Mária Eckhardt.
