Weinberg for this edition. The authors expand upon the key concepts and models of the field, focusing on the interrelationships of exercise and psychology. The new edition includes an important new chapter on exercise and cognitive function.
Bonnie G. Berger is Professor and Director of the School of Human Movement, Sport, & Leisure Studies at the Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Bonnie is a Charter Member, Fellow, and Certified Consultant of the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology (AAASP). Within AAASP, she has served as chair of the Certification Review Committee, and Health Psychology Section Chair. Bonnie also was a founding member of the Exercise and Sport Psychology Division (Div. 47) of the American Psychological Association, and a Charter Member of the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity form which she received the Outstanding Dissertation Award in 1971. Bonnie is a Fellow of the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education.
Dr. Berger has published more than 75 journal articles and book chapters and has presented more than 90 scholarly papers at national and international conferences throughout the world as well as applied presentations in business and industry. Presently, Dr. Berger is Section Editor of the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology.
Berger received a B.S. degree from Wittenberg University, and her M.A. and Ed.D. with specialization in exercise and sport psychology and motor learning from Teachers College, Columbia University. In her leisure time, Bonnie enjoys international travel, visiting family and friends, swimming, downhill skiing, and weight training.
Robert Weinberg is a professor in the Department of Kinesiology and Health at Miami University in Ohio where he was voted distinguished scholar and outstanding faculty in the College of Education, Health, and Society. Before coming to Miami University, he was a regents professor in the Department of Kinesiology at the University of North Texas from 1978–1992. He was also voted one of the top 10 sport psychologists in North America by his peers. Dr. Weinberg received his bachelor's degree from Brooklyn College in physical education. He then received his master of science in Kinesiology from UCLA followed by another master's, PhD and postdoctoral scholar in the Psychology Department at UCLA. He has been teaching sport and exercise psychology to graduate and undergraduate students for over 30 years.
He has published approximately 150 refereed articles in scholarly refereed journals, has over 40 chapters in books, and has published nine books including the most popular sport and exercise psychology text in world with co-author Dan Gould entitled Foundations of Sport and Exercise Psychology. Dr. Weinberg has served as president of the Association for the Advancement of Applied Sport Psychology and the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity. He has served as editor-in-chief for the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology. He also serves on the editorial board of numerous sport/exercise psychology journals including Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, The Sport Psychologist, International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, and the International Review of Sport and Exercise Psychology. From an applied perspective he is a certified consultant from the Association of Applied Sport Psychology and has been a long-time member of the Sport Psychology Registry for the United States Olympic Committee.
Robert C. Eklund, PhD, is presently a professor and chair in physical activity and health in the School of Sport at the University of Stirling in Scotland. Previously, he served as the distinguished professor of Sport Psychology in the Department of Educational Psychology and Learning Systems at Florida State University in Tallahassee Florida while working on chapters for this book. His doctoral degree was earned at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Exercise and Sport Science, with a specialization in sport and exercise psychology. He is a fellow of both the American College of Sports Medicine and the National Academy of Kinesiology. In addition to being widely published in research journals, Bob has co-edited (with Gershon Tenenbaum) the Encyclopedia of Sport and Exercise, Handbook of Sport Psycology (3rd Ed.), Measurement in Sport and Exercise Psychology, Critical Readings in Sport Psychology, and Critical Readings in Exercise Psychology. He has co-authored two measurement manuals on Flow, and authored or co-authored numerous book chapters and encyclopedia entries in sport and exercise psychology compendia. Dr. Eklund has presented his research and participated as a keynote lecturer and invited colloquia speaker at numerous conferences worldwide.
Professor Eklund was the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology from 2003 through 2015, the premier journal in the field, and served as associate editor for the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology and section editor (psychology) for Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport. In addition to providing editorial review services for a range of scholarly journals, Eklund presently serves as an editorial/advisory board member for The Sport Psychologist, Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology, Australian Psychologist, International Journal of Kinesiology and Sports Science, and Pamukkale Journal of Sport Sciences. In the past, he has also served on the editorial boards for the Journal of Sport & Exercise Psychology and the Journal of Applied Sport Psychology.
He now works at the University of Stirling and lives in Bridge of Allan in Scotland with his wife, Colleen, and their two sons Garth (14 years of age) and Kieran (12 years of age). He immensely enjoys their sport involvements and intense interest in begin physically active.
