He is co-author of autobiographies by Nik Turner, photographer Bob Gruen, Motown legends Eddie and Brian Holland, New York Doll Sylvain Sylvain, Heartbreaker Walter Lure, Yardbird Jim McCarty, Fairport's Judy Dyble, folkie Steve Ashley and Nektar's Roye Albrighton (forthcoming). He also wrote the official tenth anniversary history of Fruits de Mer Records.
Thompson has written at length about Space Rock, Glam Rock, Industrial, Goth, Alternative and Punk, including biographies of David Bowie, the Sweet, Sparks, Genesis, Jeff Beck, Robert Plant, Deep Purple, Rozz Williams (forthcoming) and Cream.
