The book offers new insights into the work of the celebrated German Baroque Poet Sibylla Schwarz through a process of multiple careful contextualizations. Drawing on the disciplines of music and theatre history, as well as philology, theology and the history of medicine, it helps to correct errors and open up new avenues in the field of Schwarz scholarship. Moving outwards from the various ways in which the biblical notion of paradise figures in her work (as garden, arcadia, metaphysical marriage bed), it revisits her life and work in the light of the practices and discourses of the time, offers comparisons with contemporary authors of other nationalities and with later German-language writers; and thus places the poet at the centre of a series of interlocking spatio-temporal networks.

Prof. Dr. Walter Erhart lehrt Germanistische Literaturwissenschaft an der Universität Bielefeld.
Heinz-Peter Schmiedebach forscht seit 25 Jahren zur Geschichte der Psychiatrie und ist Direktor des Instituts für Geschichte und Ethik der Medizin an der Universität Hamburg. Er leitet das Forschungsprojekt »Irre« in Hamburg - psychische Devianz auf See und in den Kolonien (1880-1920).
Univ.-Prof. Dr. Johann Anselm Steiger lehrt Kirchen- und Dogmengeschichte an der Universität Hamburg und ist Sprecher des DFG-Graduiertenkollegs 2008 "Interkonfessionalität in der Frühen Neuzeit" und der DFG-Forschungsgruppe 5138 "Geistliche Intermedialität in der Frühen Neuzeit".
Dr. Monika Schneikart war bis 2019 Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Lehrstuhl für Neuere deutsche Literatur und Literaturtheorie der Universität Greifswald. Ihre Forschungsgebiete sind Sibylla Schwarz, Gelegenheitsschriften und regionale Kulturgeschichte d. Frühen Neuzeit.
Dr. Thomas Stamm-Kuhlmann war von 1996 bis 2019 Professor für Neueste Geschichte am Historischen Institut der Universität Greifswald. Er ist Vorsitzender der Sibylla Schwarz-Gesellschaft e. V. Seine Forschungsgebiete sind Pommern, Universitätsgeschichte sowie Gelehrtennetzwerke.
Dr. Monika Unzeitig war bis 2022 Professorin für Ältere deutsche Sprache und Literatur an der Universität Greifswald. Ihre Forschungsgebiete sind Autorschaftskonzepte, Reiseliteratur und Kartographie sowie Bild- und Textbezüge im Frühen Druck.
