During the mid-1960s Germany gave way for the further development of its municipalities. Only the municipalities regarded as "central places" had an opportunity to develop further. However, not all municipalities agreed with that decision made by the respective land and planners for their future. Six small municipalities in Lower Saxony defended themselves and united to found the city Georgsmarienhütte in 1970. This led to the creation and financing of an industrial area that secured the future of the region. This book explores the connection between space order, structure policy and municipal redivision using the example of a city in Lower Saxony.
