Beschreibung
A treasury of plant wisdom from the seventeenth century. A practical guide for all. Culpeper's Complete Herbal sets out concise, plainly written descriptions of nearly every herb then known to English readers, outlining their medicinal properties and giving directions for compounding the medicines extracted from them. Serving as a natural medicine handbook, an accessible herbal medicine guide and an illustrated herbal compendium, it balances empirical observation with the folk knowledge that sustained households and apothecaries for generations. Readable and approachable, it functions equally well as a quick medicinal plant reference for everyday concerns and as a study text for those tracing the lineage of traditional herbal remedies and botanical healing plants. Gardeners will recognise familiar names; herbalists will value the pragmatic tone; curious readers will find a doorway into an English herbal tradition at once practical and rich in history.
As a foundational seventeenth century herbal and a landmark among nicholas culpeper works, this volume shaped the course of classic herbal literature by making remedies intelligible to non-specialists and by bridging folklore, early medical theory and hands-on practice. Its plain, vigorous voice and pragmatic focus turned what had been arcane Latin learning into usable advice for home and garden, helping to root the english herbal tradition in everyday life. Republished by Alpha Editions in a careful modern edition, this volume preserves the spirit of the original while making it effortless to enjoy today - a heritage title prepared for readers and collectors alike. An indispensable alternative health resource for contemporary seekers, it offers context as well as recipes, and functions as both a reference for herbalists and gardeners and a readable work of medical history for general readers. Collectors of classic herbal literature will appreciate its cultural significance; casual browsers will value its straightforward remedies and plant lore. For anyone assembling a practical natural medicine handbook or exploring the botanical healing plants that once stocked cottage and apothecary alike, Culpeper's Complete Herbal remains a lively, indispensable companion.
