Vishnu Gupta, popularly known as Chanakya, was a scholar in Economics and Political Science who taught as a professor in Takshashila University. He was the chief advisor to the King Chandragupta Maurya and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Mauryan empire. The book, written by him, comprises of Neetis and Sutras. While the Neetis aim at the cultivation of virtues and wisdom, the Sutras contain the rules for enterprise and life management. These words of wisdom enlighten people to lead a quintessential life. He is traditionally identified as Kaüilya or Vishnugupta, who authored the ancient Indian political treatise, the Arthashastra,a text dated to roughly between the 2nd century BCE and the 3rd century CE. As such, he is considered the pioneer of the field of political science and economics in India, and his work is thought of as an important precursor to classical economics. His works were lost near the end of the Gupta Empire and not rediscovered until the early twentieth century.
