If anyone deserves a long weekend of relaxing in California wine country, it's Jessica 'JJ' Jansen and her partner, Kristyn Reynolds. While barely escaping with their lives when bringing down the demented killers behind the infamous Murder Game, only to be hunted by an equally deranged killer named Brookes Williamson while serving as producers and screenwriters on the film adaptation of the Murder Game case, they more than earned some time to relax and reconnect. And what better place to get away from it all than Napa, with its world class wineries, restaurants, and spas. A place where you can escape from the real world and all of its problems. At least, that is, until those bad things find you.
A body discovered in bucolic Yountville, barely a quarter mile from where JJ and Kristyn are staying, doesn't trigger any alarms for them since they're in full vacation mode and not following the news or social media. It's only when they're approached by an important wine industry official who informs them that this isn't the first murder in the state's top wine-producing regions that their interest is piqued. What's more, he's convinced that these murders, which have stretched over hundreds of miles and nearly two years, are the work of the same person. Fearing that the police have failed to connect these far-flung murders and are instead focusing on the migrant farm worker community as prime suspects in each case, he hires JJ and Kristyn to investigate. They hadn't been prepared to launch Supersleuth Investigations so soon, but fate has a way of changing the best-laid plans.
They soon discover the one common thread that connects all the victims and confirms their hunch that these murders are the work of a serial killer: each is missing one or more fingers, forcing them to race against time to decipher the killer's cryptic message. Is it revenge? Ritual? Or something far more sinister?
JJ and Kristyn follow a twisted trail of clues, risking their lives to unmask a vicious serial killer that seems to choose their victims and the time and place of the murders at random. But in this lovely little slice of paradise, danger lurks around every corner. And sometimes, even the most beautiful and serene landscapes harbor the deadliest secrets.
