Beschreibung
A literary satire of ambition, fraud and culture collapse set in an underground world inhabited by Edwardian England nursery tale characters overrun by modern detritus.
One blazing summer morning outside a farmhouse, the hallucinations of a bitterly unfulfilled actuary give birth to an ambitious potato peel. After an unconscious infancy in the grass absorbing fragments of art-house conversation drifting over him from the patio, the little peel rushes off into the dark to make it big.

On the road he meets a hunk of genuine mud, former objet d'art, who proposes a partnership to take the two schemers to the top.

The top is a talk show at Megalopolis Studios.

Herbie Peel starts at the bottom: as an editor of a journal, and then, on discovering mouldering volumes of literary greats, as a plagiarist. His early success draws the ire of Percival Pig, domineering star of the studios, who quashes Herbie's literary career. Abandoning art for spectacle, Herbie begins to grease his path to the top with secret subservience to Percival.
The top star of the studios is the Day-Glo Pope, charismatic mafioso in a wedding dress. Impressed with Herbie's boundless amorality, he promises him talk-show stardom - on one condition: Percival Pig must disappear.
